Scottish Championship Odds: Dundee win the title

Dundee FC were made to fight all the way in the race for the 2022/23 Scottish Championship title but they have now made it over the line and will take their place in the Scottish Premiership for next season.

Top-flight status secured

While Dundee United are struggling for survival in the Scottish Premiership, arch-rivals and near-neighbours Dundee FC have secured their top-flight status for 2023/24 after winning the Scottish Championship title. The Dark Blues were involved in an eight-goal thriller against second-placed Queens Park in their final outing of the season and the Tayside outfit secured the three points thanks to a 5-3 victory.

Single-season absence

A win for Queens Park would have lifted them into pole position and with it, automatic promotion to the Scottish Premiership but instead they have been forced into the play-offs. With defeats in just 7 of their 36 league games, Dundee are thoroughly deserving of their title and they will return to the top-flight after just a single season absence after suffering relegation to the Championship at the end of 2021/22. That said, the best football free bets bookmakers are likely to install Dundee as one of the favourites for the drop next season.

New manager

Nevertheless, the Dark Blues will kick-off their new Premiership campaign with a new manager, Gary Bowyer deciding to up sticks and move back to England just days after guiding the Tayside outfit back to the top tier of the Scottish game. Recently-sacked St Johnstone boss Callum Davidson is favourite to succeed him in the Dens Park hot-seat.

Club statement

A statement from Dundee managing director John Nelms said: “Given the importance of the weeks and months ahead, I felt it was necessary to ensure we are all aligned on the direction needed to ensure the club is ready for its return to the Premiership. On behalf of everyone at the club, not least our fans, we wish Gary the best for the future and reiterate our thanks for his achievements in the past year.”
