Premier League Weekend Betting Preview: Part Two
As we continue our round-up of this weekend’s Premier League action, we turn our attention to the games taking place on Sunday. Inevitably, we’ve taken a look at Liverpool versus Manchester United in more depth, but there are three other Premier League fixtures that we need to assess. As usual, we’ll offer the latest team news, expert betting tips and the best odds, courtesy of our betting partners, Paddy Power.
Sheffield United vs Tottenham Hotspur (14:00)
Sheffield United finally claimed their first league win of the season in mid-week, defeating ten-man Newcastle United 1-0. Next up for the Blades is Jose Mourinho’s stuttering Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs were tipped to mount a serious title challenge this season but have won just once in the past six league games.
Despite their indifferent form, Spurs still boast one of the league’s meanest defences. Only Manchester City (13) have conceded fewer goals than Spurs. Meanwhile, Sunday’s hosts, Sheffield United, have scored a league-low nine goals in their 18 games so far. Spurs to win to nil will therefore prove a popular bet at 6/4.
Only Mohamed Salah (13) has scored more goals than Spurs duo, Harry Kane (12) and Son Heung-Min (11) and both will be hopeful of adding to their goal tallies and Brammal Lane. In the first scorer market, you can back Kane at 13/5 or Son at 4/1. Alternatively, they are priced at 10/11 and 7/5 respectively to score at any time.
Sheff Utd – 9/2
Draw – 13/5
Spurs – 8/13
Manchester City vs Crystal Palace (19:15)
Surprisingly, Manchester City have managed to slip under the radar as they’ve continued their relentless climb up the Premier League table. It wasn’t long ago that City were languishing in mid-table but four successive wins have seen them thrust right back into the title race.
The signing of Ruben Dias and the return to form of John Stones have been the catalyst for City’s surge up the table. The duo have now asserted themselves as the club’s first-choice centre back pairing, started together in seven of City’s last eight league games, conceding just once.
Sunday’s opponents, Crystal Palace have now earned back-to-back clean sheets in the league to we could be set for a low-scoring affair at the Etihad. Under 2.5 goals is available at 7/4.
Alternatively, if City continue their red-hot form, they are capable of blowing Crystal Palace away. With just a three-day turnaround before welcoming Aston Villa to Manchester, Pep Guardiola will hope his side can get the game wrapped up fairly early. In this scenario, you should consider either Manchester City to be leading at both half-time and full-time at 8/15 or for the first half to provide more goals than the second 45 minutes at 21/10.
Perhaps surprisingly, Phil Foden is now City’s top scorer in all competitions for the season and should prove popular at 11/2 to open the scoring on Sunday.
Man City – 1/7
Draw – 7/1
Palace – 16/1
