Odds Slashed on Pochettino
Paddy Power has slashed the odds on Mauricio Pochettino being named as the next Manchester United manager after reports that the Red Devils had sounded out the former Spurs and Southampton boss as a potential replacement for under-pressure manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Even before his Spurs departure, Mauricio Pochettino was linked to the Old Trafford hot seat. Many feel that the 48-year-old is the right man to bring the glory days back to the 20-time English champions and the Argentine has made no secret of his desire to take charge at Manchester United. According to media reports this week, Pochettino, now unemployed, has been approached by the Manchester United hierarchy who are concerned by the side’s dismal start to the season.
Solskjaer recently celebrated 100 games in charge at Manchester United but back-to-back poor performances at home and in Europe have seen the Norwegian come under increased scrutiny. The Red Devils slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Arsenal last weekend leaving them languishing in 15th in the Premier League. United followed up that disappointment with an abject display against Istanbul Basaksehir. Last season’s Turkish champions lost their first two Champions League games this season and most expected group leaders, Manchester United, to make light work of their opponents. However, it wasn’t just the 2-1 loss in Istanbul that cranked up the pressure on Solskjaer but more the woeful defensive display during that defeat.
Next permanent Manchester United manager odds
Mauricio Pochettino - 3/10
Max Allegri – 15/2
Ralph Hasenhuttl – 9/1
Brendan Rodgers – 14/1
Next up for Manchester United is a tough-looking trip to Goodison Park to play high-flying Everton. Perhaps quite surprisingly, United are the bookies’ favourites to claim all three points on Saturday lunchtime. The Red Devils are priced at 13/10 with Paddy Power whilst the hosts are 15/8.
With the trip to Everton reported to be a win-or-bust game for Solskjaer, the Manchester United manager is also the bookies’ favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post at 4/6. West Brom’s Slaven Bilic (7/2) and Scott Parker of Fulham (11/2) are the only other managers attracting any interest in this particular market.
