Masters 2021: Preview and Outright odds
The 85th edition of the Masters will get underway on Thursday and the outright betting is wide open. 2020 winner, Dustin Johnson, heads the betting but there are numerous players in with an excellent chance of claiming the Green Jacket. As we preview the upcoming golf Major, we provide odds from our betting partners, William Hill. Offering the best odds on almost all the key players at Augusta, William Hill will also be paying out each way on an incredibly generous 9 places.
DJ won the 2020 edition of the Masters in November and has hardly put a foot wrong since. Aiming to become just the fourth man to claim back-to-back green jackets is a tough ask but Johnson has not finished outside of the top ten at Augusta since 2015. Last year’s winner is certainly the one to beat here.
The real-life Happy Gilmore. Bryson Dechambeau has almost single-handedly reimagined the game through his ferocious driving ability. Quite simply, Dechambeau can hit the ball further off the tee than any other player. However, he has 18 shots to make up on Dustin Johnson from last year’s Masters and many pundits believe his brash playing style is not suited to the famed Augusta Course. The 2020 US Open champion is certainly a marmite golfer, you either love him or hate him. If you’re unsure of Dechambeau’s prospects then perhaps you should give him 9 or 18 holes and consider backing him in-play.
Spieth thrust himself back into Masters contention this week with victory in the Texas Open. Three-time Major winner, Spieth, has been on a long road back to golf’s summit since winning the third of his Major titles in July 2017 but there are suggestions that we may see the Spieth of old at Augusta. Even before that Texas Open success, Spieth was amongst the bookies’ favourites having claimed three top-five finishes already in 2021. As a fans’ favourite and an obvious return to form, Spieth is likely to shorten further in the lead up to the Masters, there is therefore no better time to back the 2015 Masters champion.
Thomas finished fourth in 2020 and his recent Players Championship win suggests he is primed to go even better this month. Thomas is the last of a quartet of Americans that dominate the betting market at present but he is our top pick to claim the Green Jacket. Thomas has been uber-consistent this season, claiming top-15 finishes in all but one of the events he contested since September. It should also be noted that JT has improved at every Masters he’s contested since his first in 2016. In his debut Masters, he finished T39 and before last year’s fourth-place finish he placed T22, T17 and T12 in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
